What It Was
China’s first domestically developed large jet airliner of the 1970s — bold, ambitious, and ahead of its ecosystem. A nation with limited resources built and flew a full-scale four-engine jet. It existed against the odds. It was driven by national ambition, self-reliance, and symbolic technological independence. By the time it flew, the world had already moved on. The program was cancelled before it could mature.
